Save Syed Ali Hussain’s life, arm and livelihood – Urgent appeal
Syed Ali Hussain is a hard working man, and an embroiderer by trade. He is now fighting for his life and to keep his arm. He has 3 children, a devoted wife who takes in stitching, to make ends meet. The couple is intent on giving their children the best education they can. In spite of hard times, this is a striving family, a family that is working for more… until that fateful Eid day.
The Incident:
That morning the family set out for Eid visits as per tradition, in their festive best; little did they know their lives would change forever. When their rickshaw overturned, the family was relieved there was no loss of life. The worst hit was Hussain, his elbow shattered and fingers fractured. His wife reached out to the patron who had helped them during the pandemic. The latter and the NGO she works with swung into action.
The aftermath:
The NGO tasked the major government hospital in Karachi to see the Hussain. He would need surgery, they said, but they could not deal with him till after Eid. During the holidays he wounds got worse, they were cleaned by another hospital working with the same organisation. After external pressure ,he was finally admitted to the government hospital. It has been 21 days and Hussain has still not been treated. He is given surgery dates, that are constantly changed. He is in torturous pain, and his elbow has started turning black. The surgeon in charge has more or less insinuated that this is not a priority case for him, allegedly because the case is NGO sponsored so there’s no opportunity for “extra” charges. Lack of check and balance at this government hospital in Karachi has left this family totally vulnerable.
Urgent Need
Hussain’s kind patron reached out to L-O-V-E. We had to make the decision to move him immediately to a private facility. There is no time to waste. If Hussain loses his arm, he loses his livelihood, if Hussain loses his life, his children lose their father. The hospital has failed Hussain, the government has failed Hussain. We are his last resort, we cannot fail him. Help us save Hussain!
